A glimmer of hope amidst chaos: The Elpidio Qurino Story

A glimmer of hope amidst chaos: The Elpidio Quirino story

Elpidio Quirino was born November 16, 1890, rising from humble beginnings, being born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Quirino wasted no time honing his skills, studying at Vigan national high school, then later on, in the University of the Philippines completing his studies in 1915 and passing the bar the same year.

After which, he made a name for himself, becoming senator in 1919, then rising through the ranks to cabinet secretary, and eventually vice president to Manuel Roxas. He then assumed the presidency upon Roxas' death in 1948.

Quirino's presidency was focused on rebuilding a post-WW2 Philippines, rebuilding infrastructure, modernizing the economy, implementing land reform, improving public health, and expanding access to education. He also strengthened ties to the west, most notably to the United States, which helped place the Philippines on the map in a post world war 2 world. This helped us join many organizations such as the United Nations and the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization.

His legacy, despite being marred by accusations of corruption during his tenure as president, he is still remembered as a reformer and a public servant to the Philippines when it needed it the most. He is a symbol of Filipino resiliency and our profound ability to rise up once more no matter what calamity we face.

The foundation of our country

 The foundation of our country

Indigenous peoples (IP's) are the ones who built our country from the ground up. Before our colonizers came, they were already here, the land of which we are standing on is rightfully theirs, yet, they are the ones being discriminated, marginalized, by the people.

The majority of Filipinos see IP's as lower than them, as second-class citizens, despite the fact that IP's are the original Filipinos. That is because their culture has been disregarded, and tossed aside, in favor of more westernized culture.

That is why with the help of The national indigenous peoples month, it can help Filipinos recognize the culture and significance of the ones who came before them. This event puts the IP's rich and diverse culture on full display, and a chance for their voices to be heard.

Climate change

A cleaner earth is a brighter Tomorrow

The main cause of environmental issues is the lack of discipline. That is the root of the problem because everyone has the ability to contribute to healing the earth by cleaning or preserving its beauty. However, some people choose to turn a blind eye, which leads to the issue of unity.

The world and its people are divided, but that is not what our planet needs. We, as humans, need unity in participating together to clean, even if we dedicate just one day of our week to it. Always remember, we need the earth more than the earth needs us.

Because we abstain from cleaning, it results in disasters, typhoons stronger than ever and the ever changing climate, just because Filipinos have the resiliency to survive from them does not mean we have to accept it as our normal.

National children's month

 FIGHT AGAINST VIOLENCE

To protect the youth is a step closer to a brighter future”

Why do we hurt those invulnerable to us?

Children are a gift, they give joy to the joyless, give purpose in life, and most importantly, they signify the next generation, they are the future. Each child’s purpose is limitless, they are hopeful and curious of the journey they face and their entire life is ahead of them. In a way, that’s what makes them so vulnerable, they have not yet faced the harsh reality of the world and because of that they symbolize our society’s future.

So what does that say when we hurt our youth, when we make them face violence we know they can't handle. We are inherently violent creatures but that's what separates our youth from us, they are not like that.

They are precious, we should be the ones protecting them, not the ones causing them harm. So with the national children's month, that is what we all strive to accomplish.
